Founded in 2014 and located on the campus of Necker Hospital, Institut Necker Enfants Malades (INEM) stands as an international biomedical research center.

Necker Campus

Necker-Enfants Malades Hospital was established in 1927, resulting from the merge of Necker Hospital, exclusively dedicated to adults since 1778, and the "Hôpital des Enfants Malades", founded in 1801 as the world's first pediatric hospital. Presently, Necker-Enfants Malades Hospital boasts 580 beds, primarily dedicated to pediatric care. It has housed numerous research units that have contributed to the hospital's renown and achievements through their excellence.

In the 2010s, these research units began a process of consolidation and pooling based on their themes. This led to the creation of Imagine and INEM institutes in 2014: one focusing on genetic themes, the other on the study of organs and their interactions, and common diseases influenced by genetic and environmental factors, mainly affecting children.

The Necker campus offers state-of-the-art technological platforms managed by the "Structure Fédérative de Recherche Necker", supporting researchers and young researchers from both research institutes.

Necker Faculty of Medicine

Designed in the 1960s by André Wogenscky, visionary architect long-time collaborator of Le Corbusier, and embellished with sculptures by Marta Pan, Necker Medical School seamlessly integrates medical education and scientific research within its expansive 22,000 m2 space.

However, an extensive renovation and rehabilitation initiative has required teams to relocate. Only as of January 2020 has the medical school been able to accommodate all INEM teams within a singular fully renovated setting.
