Simon Fillatreau pursued his education at the Ecole Normale Supérieure de la rue d’Ulm in France. He completed his doctoral training under the supervision of Pr D. Gray at Imperial College in London, England, and later at the University of Edinburgh in Scotland. Following his doctoral studies, he was appointed as group leader position at the Deutsches Rheuma-ForschungsZentrum, a Leibniz Institute in Berlin, Germany, where he established the "Immune regulation" team.
In 2015, he returned to Paris as a Professor of Immunology at the Université Paris Cité & Institut Necker Enfants Malades and created the "Immunity in Health and Disease" team. His notable achievements include receiving an ERC Consolidator Grant in 2014 to study the regulatory function of antibody-secreting cells and an AXA Long-term chair in Translational Immunology in 2015.
In 2022, Pr Fillatreau served as the coordinator for a collaborative Horizon Europe grant to develop autoantigen-specific regulatory T cells for the treatment of type 1 diabetes (ARTiDe), collaborating with academic and industrial partners.
His research primarily focuses on unraveling the regulatory functions of B cells, T cells, and plasma cells, in immune-mediated diseases, with the ultimate goal of translating these discoveries into novel therapeutic approaches. His laboratory's work has led to the discovery of novel plasma cell populations and provided valuable insights into mechanisms related to the resolution of autoimmune diseases.
