ERC Grant for Matthieu Mahévas and the Autoimmune and B cells Immune Responses Team

We are proud to announce that Matthieu Mahévas, leader of the Autoimmune and B cells immune responses team at INEM, has been awarded a prestigious ERC Consolidator Grant for his project, DIPP-IMMUNE: Dissecting Protective and Pathogenic Long-lasting Humoral Immunity.

The DIPP-IMMUNE project aims to uncover critical mechanisms behind long-term humoral immunity, focusing on three key questions:

  • How are memory B cells selected to ensure lasting protection from vaccines?
  • What distinguishes plasma cells targeting self-antigens from those targeting vaccine antigens, and how can this distinction inform therapeutic strategies?
  • What are the mechanisms that regulate the elimination of self-reactive B cells in germinal centers, and what drives the breakdown of tolerance in autoimmune diseases?

This project seeks to enhance our understanding of the immune system's long-term functionality, with direct implications for improving vaccines and developing treatments for autoimmune diseases.

This achievement highlights the collaborative expertise of Matthieu Mahévas and his team in advancing immunological research at INEM.
