Mario Pende recipient of the Gaston Rousseau Prize from the Académie des Sciences
We are proud to announce that Mario Pende, head of the Cell growth control by nutrients lab, has received the prestigious Gaston Rousseau Prize for his research on nutrient metabolism and its effects on cell growth, proliferation, and senescence. His work has shed light on metabolic changes that explain why senescent cells accumulate fat in lipid droplets rather than using it for cell membrane construction during growth.
The Gaston Rousseau Prize, established in 1966, is a biennial award dedicated to supporting and recognizing scientific research that promotes human well-being, particularly in areas like disease treatment and prevention, including cancer.
Each year, with the support of private donors, state organizations, and companies, the Académie des sciences awards nearly 80 prizes covering all scientific fields, from fundamental to applied research. Many excellent candidates are considered for these awards, selected by juries under a regulation framework to avoid conflicts of interest.
Congratulations, Mario, on this well-deserved recognition!
